Karen Brouwer

My Mum would tell you my journey with Art started from the moment I was born, I always had a pencil in my hand.
My Decorative Painting started the end of 1996 when I saw a lady doing a class on Christmas Ornaments and I was hooked.
I was fortunate enough to learn from some of Australia’s most talented artists and with the encouragement and help of Lea Davis and Carolyn Ballantine I started to teach in 1998 and became a DecoArt Helping Artist.

I first taught at the SDP convention in 2001 and have been lucky enough to teach all over the USA, New Zealand and of course Australia.
Designing is one of my 2 passions. I often joke about the crazy ideas I have in my head and I am so fortunate that my amazing husband Harry makes all my ideas come to life.

From my first 3D Snowglobe that he changed so many times to the roof of the gingerbread house, that took him hours, to the music boxes and teapots. I am so lucky to have the support of Pinecraftinc who make my wood in the USA and sell my patterns, it means the world to me to be part of their team.

Harry now has a 3D printer and I am loving painting on the new creations he is making, the possibilities are endless.

My other passion is teaching, I love meeting people and sharing my techniques, designs and love of painting with them. Many of my past and present students are my closest friends and the friendship and support from fellow teachers is another blessing of our wonderful industry.
